NCIG SR02 and Wharf Pile Coating
NCIG SR02 and Wharf Pile Coating
Description:
NCIG owns and operates one of Australia’s major coal export terminals and is currently located on the Kooragang Island in Newcastle, NSW. The NCIG plant and equipment was commissioned 2010 and handles 66Mt of coal per annum.
This coating project is part of a long-term coating maintenance plan on NCIG assets that includes stacker reclaimers, ship loaders and wharves, in order to adequately maintain and increase the life expectancy of their major infrastructure plant. This report covers the 2nd stage of the works which involved coating maintenance on SR02 stacker reclaimer and some piles on K8, K9 & K10 wharves.
Key Aspects:
Completion of repairs on immersed piles via dry abrasive blasting and airless spray. All works were completed via boat access with purposely designed platforms installed by boat.
The main challenge was environmental protection for tidal works whilst working around ship movements.
Coating works on SR02 stacker reclaimer during a 10-day outage (24-hour work schedule):
Spot repairs on the boom structure and tripper car areas via power tool clean and brush / roller application, access via EWP or from mobile scaffold & walkway.
Large spot repairs around the bucket wheel area via abrasive blasting and airless spraying.
The main challenge was delivering a high-quality coating system for the full scope of works during the allocated 10 day outage period.
