St Peters Bridge Refurbishment
Description:
The Bedwin Road Overbridge is a jack arch bridge, built in 1927 and located in St Peters NSW, 500m west of St Peters station. It has a total of four spans; spans 1 and 2 have rail lines underneath; span 3 has a railway access road underneath; and span 4 has Railway Parade / Edgeware Road underneath (both public roads).
Freyssinet Australia was engaged as head contractor. Works were completed during shutdowns and non-shutdown periods, and simultaneously with other contractors and Sydney Train maintenance personnel.
Key Aspects:
Installation, maintenance and removal of temporary access arrangements to enable staging of works and maintain safe access over the rail corridor and to/from all station platforms.
Installation of access scaffolding and containment structures to provide a solid barrier between work areas and the operating rail lines, complying with technical requirements.
Temporary propping and support to steelwork for bearing remediation (including two in shutdown weekend).
Replacement of bearings at 10 locations spread across Piers 2 and 3 and Abutment-2.
Surface preparation and painting of all exposed steel surfaces in accordance to technical requirements and site-specific coating system (including work during two shutdown weekends).
Design and installation of a works containment enclosure.
