Macarthur Bridge - Concrete repairs

Description:

Macarthur Bridge, over the Nepean River at Camden, was built in 1972 and is a 26 span bridge with a total length of 1030m. This two-lane bridge carries over 15,000 vehicles daily. Inaction has resulted in cracking, spalling and delamination along the kerbs.

This project involved the repair of the damaged concrete barriers for the full extent of the bridge to reinstate the design strength and halt further deterioration. Freyssinet Australia was engaged to undertake the first stage of the concrete repairs along the northern kerb.

Key Aspects:
The remedial works on the kerb located along the pedestrian walkway included:;
Traffic management over the entire bridge.
145m2 of concrete repairs using hydro demolition and shotcrete technique.
3,480m2 of anti-carbonation coating application.
Works were completed during day and night shifts.
Environmental management was a critical aspect of this project, including the collection of water to avoid Nepean River pollution and management of water run-off to ensure water flows over active nests.
Works to be completed prior to the swallows breeding season.
