Winchombe Carson Woolstore

Description:

The Winchcombe Carson Woolstore is a heritage‐listed warehouse located at 54 Vernon Terrace, Teneriffe in Brisbane. It was designed by noted Brisbane architect Claude William Chambers and was built in various stages between 1910 to 1911, 1934 and 1955, and is the oldest extant woolstore in the Teneriffe precinct. During the 1980’s the building was converted to upmarket apartments.

With general painting works being undertaken to the structure by others, Freyssinet was invited to undertake specialist façade remediation on the problematic southeast elevation. These works were undertaken in conjunction with SW Consultants and included detailed brick, concrete and render repairs, resulting from a combination of brick growth, building movements and corrosion, with remediation procedures developed to be sympathetic to the heritage nature of the structure while providing long term durability.

Key Aspects:
The project was broken up into 8 drops consisting of precast profiled concrete panels, with access provided via mast climber and access scaffold.
Visual inspection and assessment of facade to determine areas which required remediation.
Break out of delaminated concrete, rust stains, ferrules and cracks.
Reinstatement of removed concrete using high build cementitious repair mortar, replacement of sealant of joints using high performance elastomeric joint sealant.
Replacement/repair of broken window louvres and replacement of cracked window seals.
Waterproofing and painting of entire facade using acrylic copolymer waterproof membrane.
Installation of new Telstra signage.
The works included approximately 1,050 ferrule repairs, 13,100m² of protective coatings and 40m² of concrete repairs.
