Description:
The Cairns Telephone Exchange is located in Shields Street in the popular north Queensland tourist city. Constructed in 1972, the three-level structure consists of a reinforced concrete frame with red brick façades and contains sensitive telecommunications infrastructure.
Given the age of the structure, various defects were identified during routine engineering inspections. Due to our previous involvement on other prominent telephone exchange façade repair projects, Freyssinet Australia was entrusted with the specialist repair works.
Key Aspects:
Installation of encapsulated scaffolding to ensure public protection.
Detailed brick repairs including repair of corroded shelf angles and brick stitching.
Concrete and render repairs.
Façade cleaning.
Renewal of protective coatings and silane treatments to brickwork.
Roof level cappings and flashings were also replaced.
