Peats Ferry Bridge Rehabilitation
Peats Ferry Bridge Rehabilitation
The Peats Ferry Bridge is a road bridge which crosses the Hawkesbury River north of Sydney in NSW. It was built as part of the Hornsby-Kariong section of the Pacific Highway – the first direct road link between Sydney and Newcastle.
Freyssinet Australia was awarded the contract by Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) to rehabilitate the piers of both bridges. The piers had succumbed to severe corrosion of the steel reinforcement, which in turn led to major concrete spalling of the piers.
The aim was to implement a long-term engineering solution that would be safe, environmentally friendly and uphold the integrity of both bridges for many years, whilst also making them aesthetically pleasing to the many visitors who use the Hawkesbury River on a day-to-day basis.
