Maritime Museum Pile Maintenance Works
Description:
The Australian National Maritime Museum North and South Wharfs required upgrade works on their sheet piles and tubular piles.
The sheet piles suffered from a high level of corrosion due to the proximity with the marine environment and the location in the splash zone. Almost the entire painting system was delaminated or non-existent. The tubular piles also suffered from a high level of corrosion and needing a structural upgrade.
Key Aspects:
Sheet pile wall: Freyssinet completed hydro-blasting of the remaining paint on the structure, followed by a detailed steel thickness inspection. After the structure had been reinstated to a sound structural state, a full lasting/painting process was completed to re-instate the corrosion protection.
Tubular piles: Freyssinet installed a reinforcement system at the steel pile/concrete beam connection designed by GHD. This involved the fabrication of steel elements and their welding to the existing tubular piles. The piles were then blasted/painted to re-instate the corrosion protection.
Freyssinet also organised the design and fabrication of the access system consisting of suspended aluminium platforms.
