Description:
The culvert underneath Progress Avenue is part of the rainwater evacuation system that operates from Sydney’s western suburbs to Sydney Harbour. Remedial works had to be carried out to ensure structural stability of the culvert.
Key Aspects:
Freyssinet Australia’s role was to carry out inspection and concrete repairs on the soffit/walls of the north cell of the 200m long culvert under Progress Avenue.
The works involved saw cutting, hydro demolition and shot patching of the repair areas, as well as applying silane coating at every construction joint.
The main safety issue was the monitoring of rainfall in the Sydney region because of flash flooding occurring frequently in the area.
