Prouts Bridge ¬– Cathodic Protection on Piers

Description: 

This project involved the reinstatement of the Prouts Bridge across the Cooks River.

It involved the concrete repair, installation and commissioning of impressed current cathodic protection within the concrete piers. The bridge sundered heavy concrete cancer and corrosion due to its exposure to the chlorine environment.

The project was part of the Stewardship Maintenance Contract between Roads and Maritime Services and Ventia Boral Amey NSW JV.

 

Key Aspects: 
Freyssinet Australia was the head contractor on the project and was responsible for the overall execution of the project.
Works involved set up of site compound and equipment on an area next to the bridge.
Staged installation of suspended scaffold for the works was carried out.
Removal of defective concrete, steel reinforcement repair and concrete reinstatement (hand repair and form and pour).
Installation of impressed current cathodic protection including the installation of discrete anodes, conductor bar, cable connections, reference electrodes, junction boxes, cable tray and transformer reciter unit.
Application of concrete anti-carbonation coating
Commissioning of the ICCP system.
