Snowy Hydro

During the peak of Winter 2020, Freyssinet Australia commenced a large scale cleaning project for Snowy Hydro Limited at the iconic Tumut 3 Power Station.

Cleaning works involved high pressure water jetting systems and in particular the use of sophisticated hydro robots that traversed the perimeter of the Penstocks. Hand lance pressure cleaning was utilised under the Penstocks. Each individual Penstock was 6 metres in diameter and approximately 488m long with a total pipe length of 2928 lineal metres.

The project had its challenges. Particularly working on the steep and uneven terrain in cold, icy and slippery conditions. One innovative project development was a custom fall arrest system for the robots in the event of failure of the magnetic attachments.
